Modern luxury homes depend on electricity for far more than lighting and appliances. Automation processors, network equipment, surveillance cameras, access control, motorized shades, climate systems and sophisticated audio-video components all require continuous, stable power.

When utility power fails—even momentarily—the entire connected-home experience can be disrupted. Network equipment reboots, control systems go offline, surveillance coverage may be interrupted and sensitive electronics can be exposed to damaging power conditions.

The Xtreme Power M90S-12S provides a different approach to residential backup power. Rather than protecting individual components with separate battery backups, this modular uninterruptible power supply can protect critical circuits or entire electrical panels from one centralized location.

Backup Power Without the Wait

Traditional standby generators can provide valuable long-duration backup power, but they require time to detect an outage, start the engine and transfer the home to generator power. Even a brief interruption can be long enough to reboot network switches, automation controllers, computers and other sensitive electronics.

The M90S-12S is an online double-conversion UPS. Under normal operation, incoming AC power is continuously converted and regenerated before reaching the connected equipment. When utility power is lost, the system transitions to its batteries with zero transfer time, keeping protected systems online without interruption.

For the homeowner, that means the lights, network, entertainment systems and security infrastructure can continue operating without an obvious disruption.

Clean Power for Sensitive Home Technology

Complete outages are only one type of power problem. Homes can also experience voltage sags, surges, electrical noise, frequency variations and other disturbances that may affect electronic equipment.

Because the M90S-12S uses online double-conversion technology, the connected equipment does not operate directly from untreated utility power. The UPS supplies clean, regulated power to help protect automation systems, AV equipment, networking hardware and other sensitive devices from poor incoming power quality.

This is particularly important in large residences where numerous interconnected systems must operate reliably together. A power disturbance affecting one critical network or control component can create problems throughout the home.

Scalable from Critical Loads to Whole-Home Protection

Every residence has different power requirements. One homeowner may want to protect the network, security system and selected lighting circuits. Another may want backup power for an entire luxury estate.

The M90S-12S can be configured in eight capacities ranging from 6 kW to 48 kW. Its modular architecture allows power modules and battery capacity to be selected around the home’s actual load requirements. Additional modules can also be incorporated as the property’s technology and power requirements grow.

Potential protected loads include:

  • Smart-home processors and automation controllers
  • Network switches, routers and wireless systems
  • Security cameras, access control and alarm systems
  • Home theaters and distributed AV systems
  • Home offices and computer equipment
  • Selected lighting and climate-control circuits
  • Refrigeration and other essential appliances
  • EV charging infrastructure where system capacity permits

The system supports 208/120V or 240/120V single-phase electrical environments, making it suitable for centralized residential panel or subpanel applications.

>

Runtime Designed Around the Residence

Backup runtime depends on the size of the protected load and the selected battery configuration. The M90S-12S can be equipped with additional battery cabinets to provide up to six hours of runtime at full load. Lighter loads may operate considerably longer.

This flexibility allows integrators and electrical professionals to design the system around the homeowner’s priorities.

A system might be configured to support a large portion of the residence through shorter utility interruptions. Alternatively, it could support a smaller group of critical systems for a much longer period.

Accurate load calculations are essential — and Future Ready Solutions can help you capture the information and do the math. The connected equipment, desired runtime, available electrical capacity and future expansion plans should all be evaluated during system design.

UPS and Generator Protection Can Work Together

A whole-home UPS does not necessarily have to replace a standby generator. In many large residences, the two technologies can serve complementary roles.

The UPS can maintain power during the generator’s startup and transfer sequence, preventing sensitive electronics from rebooting. Once the generator is operating, it can provide the longer-duration energy needed for an extended outage while the online UPS continues supplying stable power to the protected systems.

For shorter outages, the batteries may provide sufficient runtime without starting a generator at all. This can reduce generator operation during momentary utility events while avoiding engine noise, fuel consumption and exhaust.

The right architecture depends on the residence, expected loads and the homeowner’s backup-power objectives.

Built for Serviceability and Expansion

Large residential power systems must be designed for long-term service, not simply initial installation.

The M90S-12S uses front-access, hot-swappable power and battery modules. Individual modules can be serviced or replaced without dismantling the complete system. An integral maintenance bypass also allows protected loads to be transferred to utility power when UPS maintenance is required.

A 10-inch color touchscreen provides system-level operating information, status notifications and alarms. Each power module also includes its own display for additional visibility. Optional network communication cards can support Web/SNMP, relay or Modbus monitoring.

These capabilities give integrators and service providers a more manageable platform for supporting the system throughout its operating life.

>

A Better Homeowner Experience

Homeowners invest in premium automation, AV, networking and security systems because they expect convenience, reliability and confidence. Those benefits disappear quickly when unstable power causes equipment resets, connectivity problems or service calls.

Whole-home UPS protection helps integrators deliver a more complete solution. Instead of protecting only the equipment inside an AV rack, the integrator can address the electrical infrastructure supporting the entire connected-home experience.

The result is a home that remains connected, secure and functional when utility power becomes unreliable.
